Outlying Outlaws

Outlying Outlaws

What came naturally once over
a distant memory is
a field over a fence
we feel incapable of crossing
now that we’ve come so far over it
having to remind ourselves it was a journey
that took years to traverse,
and now that we’re ways away,
coming back is harder than ever.

Yet, I am still pulled
by the same magnetic forces
to which I was once repelled.

Isn’t it funny?
And isn’t this the experience of
the grass always being greener
on the other side of the fence?

We find ourselves
outliers of our own experience

We find ourselves
outliers of our own experience,
lab rats of our own
groggy experimentation,
coming to foggy realisations—
yes, there we go again
with that sense of murky clarification:

Oxymorons that stab
our route to self-discovery
while you poke and probe us
for answers that help you understand
even though the point has always been
for us to grasp our own experience
which always seems close,
but is still miles away from closure.

Editor’s note: This one’s dedicated to my Scorpios, specifically. If you made it here from YouTube, thank you so much for giving this poem and my poetry the time of day. Having said that, however, I write for myself and anyone who can relate to poetry so no matter how you stumbled upon this, thank you for reading!
